The is temple A at Agrigento, usually identified as the temple of Hercules after Cicero who described it as being not far from the forum. It’s one of the earliest temples in the city, dating from the end of the sixth century BC, though it was re-worked during the fifth century. The temple bears Tanit symbols which suggests that it may have had multiple purposes. The temple would have been impressive. It overlooks the main gate to the south where visitors would have entered the city from the harbour.
