This is an example of archaeology in action at Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve. It’s located on Alaska Peninsula, and even by local standards it seems to be remote. Nonetheless Buzz Hoffmann and his team have found evidence of ancient settlement. Lithic tools have been found associated with carbon dating to 1700 BP, which would be early first millennium AD.
